Our sessions are suitable for KS2 upwards. Our sessions are mindful of the time spent in one go in Virtual reality experiences. There are frequent breaks to further to learning opportunities. KS2 children share headsets between 2, this naturally breaks up the experience and KS3 upwards have one headset each and spend no more that 20 minutes in VR at any one time.
Each session is the maximum of an hour. The sessions are tailored to fit into a teaching period. We can accommodate up to the maximum of 8 sessions in a 2 form entry primary school. A 1 form entry school would be 4 sessions of an hour each. We work with the schools and decided the best timings for each school. In Secondary schools, a session can be delivered for each teaching period, again this would typically mean 5 VR sessions a day.
Here at VR Workshops we bring all in one headsets, these are the very best quality and ensure an awesome experience. The headsets are centrally controlled from a device by the workshop teacher. The headsets last 3 hours and need to be charged during the lunch break. The headsets are transported in hard suitcases and are charged from this unit.
For Primary schools we bring enough for 1 between 2 and for our Emotional Well Being course for Secondary students we bring enough for one each student.
Ideally, It’s more efficient for the workshops to take place in the same space. This means less time is wasted moving form class to class and setting up each time. We often work in halls and libraries. We cannot work outside as the headsets are not for use in direct sunlight. We will of course work from classroom to classroom if that is the only option.
Yes! We can provide templates for a risk assessment and consent forms for the parents.
Our workshop facilitators are run by teachers, who are experienced in classroom management and lesson delivery. Our staff have DBS certificates and QTS.
VR Workshops covers Berkshire, Surrey, SE London and parts of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire. Please email to find out more.
Before Using a VR Headset
- A comfortable virtual reality experience requires an unimpaired sense of motion and balance. Do not use the headset when you are: Tired; need sleep; under emotional stress or anxiety; or when suffering from cold, flu, headaches, migraines, or earaches, as this can increase your susceptibility to adverse symptoms.
- We recommend seeing a doctor before using the headset if you are pregnant, elderly, have pre-existing binocular vision abnormalities or other serious medical conditions.
- To charge the headsets, carefully ensure they are placed within their supplied case, with the USB cable connected to each headset. When the case is connected to the mains using the supplied power cable, the light on each headset should illuminate to show that it is charging. When the headsets are fully charged, we recommend switching the power supply off at the mains.
General
Adults should make sure children use the headset in accordance with these health and safety warnings including making sure the headset is used as described in the Before Using the Headset section and the Safe Environment section.
Adults should monitor children who are using or have used the headset for any of the symptoms described in these health and safety warnings (including those described under the Discomfort and Repetitive Stress Injury sections), and should limit the time children spend using the headset and ensure they take breaks during use.
Prolonged use should be avoided, as this could negatively impact hand-eye coordination, balance, and multi-tasking ability. Adults should monitor children closely during and after use of the headset for any decrease in these abilities. We recommend that VR is used for no more than 15 minutes in any one lesson. Short VR sessions are very engaging and are the perfect way to open a topic or reinforce a key point. The teacher monitors the length of time the VR is used and Children will not exceed safe limits.
We operate a safe hygienic experience. The headset have cleanable face masks. They are cleaned between classes with non-alcohol wipes. Children also have their own disposal face mask to ensure our workshops are as covid secure as possible. Children have to wash their hands before handling our headsets for an added layer of protection.
